Things To Do

Beaches, boats, lobster, and the soul of coastal Maine.

Dock Square & Downtown

Dock Square Kennebunkport Maine

The Heart of Kennebunkport

Dock Square is where most visitors begin their Kennebunkport experience. Clustered around a small bridge over the Kennebunk River, you'll find art galleries, boutiques, ice cream shops, restaurants, and the kind of unhurried New England charm that's increasingly hard to find.

  • Art galleries and local craftspeople
  • Scoop Deck ice cream — a Kennebunkport tradition
  • Easy walk to the Kennebunk River and harbor views
  • Window shopping, antiques, and Maine-made gifts

Beaches

Kennebunkport's beaches are among Maine's finest — sandy, clean, and backed by beach grass and shingle cottages. Gooch's Beach is the most popular; Mother's Beach is calmer and perfect for families; Colony Beach sits near the grand Colony Hotel. For the adventurous, Parsons Beach to the north is quiet and wild.

Ocean Avenue & Walker's Point

Walker's Point Kennebunkport

Ocean Avenue winds along the rocky shore from Dock Square out to Walker's Point — the summer compound of the Bush family. It's one of the most scenic drives (or bike rides) on the Maine coast. Waves crash against granite ledges, lobster boats bob offshore, and the views are postcard-perfect.

  • Drive-by Walker's Point — the presidential cottage
  • Bike the route — rentals available at Dock Square
  • Rocky shore picnic spots with stunning Atlantic views

Sailing, Kayaking & Water Activities

Sailing Charters

Multiple operators offer sunset sails, private charters, and afternoon cruises from the Kennebunk River. Bring a bottle of wine and watch the harbor fade into the distance.

Sea Kayaking

Paddle the estuary, explore sea caves, and get close to the rocky shore in ways you can't from land. Guided tours available for beginners and experienced paddlers.

Fishing Trips

Deep-sea fishing for striped bass, bluefish, and mackerel. Half-day and full-day charters depart from the Kennebunk River. No experience necessary.

Cape Porpoise

Cape Porpoise is the quieter, more authentic fishing village that's technically part of Kennebunkport. Here, lobster traps are stacked on actual working docks, the lobster shacks serve what comes off the boats that morning, and the pace is slower than the tourist-busy Dock Square area.

It's a short drive from the center of town — and it's where locals eat lobster. Go for the whole experience: dock-side lobster, cold beer, paper napkins, and the smell of salt air.
